José María Ibáñez Alcaraz was born in 1867 in Instinción, a small village in Almería, in the south of Spain. He was the founder’s great-grandfather. He spent long seasons working far from home — in Argentina, in France, wherever the work took him.
Back in the village, people started calling him Pepe el Mundo: Pepe, the World.
